Bomb blast in Nepal market, no word on casualties KATHMANDU, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Suspected Maoist rebels exploded a bomb at a supermarket in the heart of the Nepali capital on Wednesday but there was no immediate word on any injuries, police said. No one claimed responsibility yet for the blast at the fashionable shopping centre but police said they suspected Maoist insurgents fighting to overthrow Nepal's constitutional monarchy and replace it with one-party communist rule. "It has caused some damage to window panes of the building but we have no report of any injuries so far," one police official told Reuters. Witnesses said they saw smoke rising out of the building in Kathmandu's main shopping district. A witness said the blast took place just as shops in the mall were opening for business. The Nepali capital has been shaken by a wave of bombings in recent months even as the poverty-stricken country's army struggles to crush the Maoist rebels who derive their inspiration from China's revolutionary leader Mao Zedong. |
