Autocross at Airport Garden Hotel on Sunday The CMSC in conjunction with Suzuki, Exide and Citroen will conduct an Autocross event on Sunday, September 1, at the Airport Gardens Hotel. This is the second time this event is being held at this venue once again being made possible through the sponsorship of Brown & Co. Ltd. The event will be open to standard and to modified cars, as also to jeeps, Double Cabs etc. In an autocross event, vehicles are sent off individually, and the time taken for them to cover a set out course. The winner of each class will be determined by the lowest time achieved. Autocross has always been an easy route for the novice drivers to get a feel for a motor sport event, as cars need little by way of preparation to be competitive in such event. The course is usually a fairly tight course, testing the skill of he driver more than the outright power of the vehicle. The track surface at the Airport Garden Hotel combines both tarmac as also gravel sections, which makes it more interesting and challenging for the competitor. The event will be held on Sunday morning, starting by about 8.30 a.m. and finishing up for lunch at the hotel, where competitors and their families can enjoy a swim whilst the results are being calculated. The prizegiving will follow immediately after lunch. Entry forms are available at the Club office at Jinasena Ltd, No. 4, Hunupitiya Road, and completed entry forms must be submitted no later than Wednesday 28th August. |
