Top seeds Oshada Wijemanne and Amrit Rupasinghe entered the Boys' Under 18 Doubles final of the 2003 Sri Lanka Junior National Tennis Championship continued at the National Tennis Centre courts, Green Path yesterday. The tournament is conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association and sponsored by Hanjin Shipping However, the No.1 seeded combination of Wijemanne and Rupasinghe had to survive early shocks, losing the opening set to U Wickremasinghe and D Mayadunne before taking the long route to the final. Having lost the first set, 4/6, the top seeds rallied splendidly to race through the next two sets, 6/1, 6/3. Their opponents in tomorrow's final, S Sabanathan and H Kaneshyogan had an easier passage as they overcame Y Jayasekera and C Vidanarachchi, 6/2, 6/2, in the second semifinal.

Meanwhile, the Girls' under 18 singles event ran a predictable course to the semifinal stage. Bottom seed Jancy Paramanathan, singles runner up at the recent National championship, thrashed Sashikla Senaratne, 6/0, 6/1 to join the top seed Mahesha Seneviratne, of Bishops College, among the last four.

Seneviratne's quarterfinal win on Tuesday too was comprehensive, dropping just one set to her quarterfinal opponent Saroja Gunatilleka. In the semifinals, Jancy Paramanathan will meet third seed Nawachala de Silva, a 6/0, 6/1 winner over Bincy Paramanathan while Mahesha Seneviratne takes on the winner of the Amitha Arudpragasam- Swini Fernando quarterfinal match. Seneviratne and Paramanathan are also in the fray for the under 16 singles title and are seeded to meet in the final. - (D.W.)
