FFSL gym opens today

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka has set up a gymnasium in their "Football House" Headquarters at Independence Avenue.

The Gymnasium at the Football Federation of Sri Lanka will be officially opened by Minister of Youth & Sports, Johnston Fernando today at 9.30 a.m.

This is another brainchild and a cherished dream come true of Vernon Manilal Fernando, who is also solely responsible for the establishment of a fully-fledged "Football House" to international standard through his association and influence with the FIFA (Federation Internationale de of Football Association).

The cost of installing this Gymnasium, complete with equipment and other related material, etc. is approximately 3 million and it was funded by the Football Federation's own funds. All national football players will be eligible to use this Gymnasium facility free of charge. Preference will be given to all Football clubs to make use of the Fitness Centre on a payment of a reasonable fee.

Fernando has expressed his willingness to allow other sportsmen and women, who are training at the Reid Avenue grounds to use the FFSL Gymnasium/Fitness Centre on payment of a reasonable fee.

Other personnel and Sports clubs could make requests to use this facility, depending on the availability of the fitness equipment/days/times on payment of a reasonable fee on a daily/monthly fee, or on payment of an yearly subscription fee on a roster basis.

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka, National Coach, Marcus Ferreira will overlook the operations of the Gymnasium with his Assistant Sanjeewa de Silva, FFSL, Masseur. We expect this Gymnasium/Fitness Centre to be fully operational by December 2002.
