The Ceylon Bible Society is an organisation involved in the translation, publication and distribution of the Bibile, working closely with all churches of all denominations islandwide to achieve this objective, states a Bible Society press release. Traditionally the work of the Bible Societies has focused on making the Bible accessible and affordable to all people everywhere. This year, we are additionally, concentrating on serving the disabled, which in our nation number approximately 2 million (inclusive of visual, hearing, mental and physical disability). We will be organising many events to achieve this and create awareness, the first in the series will be an evening of gospel music, dance and drama with a difference, on August 31 at 6 p.m. at the auditorium of Bishop's College, Boyde Place, Colombo 3. The program is unique in that it features gospel music, dance and drama of the highest calibre while including 'differently abled' artistes (the SLFVHA blind choir) also in its program, thus creating a new awareness of their need for becoming 'equal and fully participating citizens' in our society. |
