New GM Bank of Ceylon

Sarath de Silva (BA, FCIB, AIB) will retire from the post of General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon from August 31. He will be succeeded by S.N.P Palihena.

Sarath de Silva joined the Bank of Ceylon as a Sub-Accountant in 1965. Among the commercial bankers he is reputed for his contribution to the development banking sector. An authority on the subject of Micro Sector Finance, he had served as Consultant overseas at the request of International Credit Agencies.

He was also a prolific writer on the subject and has contributed to international publications. He represents the local banks as the Executive Council Member of the Asia Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association in Bangkok. He retires at the age of 60.

Mr. Palihena will be the 15th General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon. He has had a banking career extending over 34 years at the same bank and headed some key business units in the Bank. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London and a Fellow of the Institute of bankers, Sri Lanka.
