NEW DELHI, Wednesday (AFP) - Lankan Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening for a one-day trip to meet his Indian counterpart Yashwant Sinha. Fernando will discuss various issues, including his recent talks with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, during his meeting with Sinha on Thursday, before returning to Sri Lanka in the evening. Fernando went to Pakistan last month and conveyed to Musharraf some of India's concerns over the disputed territory of Kashmir. Fernando had carried India's message to Pakistan following a meeting with Sinha in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, before his Pakistan visit. Fernando has said the tensions between India and Pakistan had affected the seven-member South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the member states were keen to see a settlement. SAARC, which also includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives and Nepal, held its latest summit in January after a two-year delay because of bilateral bickering between India and Pakistan. Fernando is also expected to discuss his government's peace process with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. |
