by Kalutara group correspondent There are about 18,000 field officers attached to the Insurance Corporation of Sri Lanka (Ltd). About half of them receive less than Rs. 1,000 as their monthly commission and within the next 4 months those who's earnings are less than Rs. 1,000 are to be discontinued according to a decision made by the authority said Sarath Cooray Executive Director. He was addressing the Insurance Officers of the Kalutara district at a meeting held to re-open the new Insurance office on the first floor of the Paranagama building complex under the patronage of High Court Judge Maxwell Paranagama. Mr. Cooray said about 75 branch offices of the Insurance Corporation function countrywide. I have examined every one of these offices, even the Trincomalee and Batticaloa branches. Some of these offices do not even have proper ventilation and the staff undergo various difficulties. Therefore as a first step to eliminate these difficulties, the Kalutara branch office is being reorganised. The decision to discontinue the field officers who earn smaller amount of commission was made in order to motivate the filed officers as Insurance has become a highly competitive business today. If by such motivation the field officers improve their business there is room for them to be re-employed. The officers' punctuality is very important and serious action will be taken against those who are late to office daily. Mrs. S.D. Ratnapala proposed the vote of thanks. Jayasiri Kottagoda, Nelson Kalansuriya and V.C. Samarasinghe also spoke. |
