SriLankan Airlines has collected Rs. 300,000 towards the Sri Lanka Cricket Association's Hope Cancer Hospital project through the sale of a miniature Hope Cap on board its flights since July 1, said the Airline's Corporate Communications Manager Victor Abeysekera. SriLankan Airlines along with Phoenix Advertising is sponsoring the project. A cap is priced at 5 US dollars each. The Hope cap will be featured in Sri Lankan promotions overseas as well. The Airline has also planned to sell a souvenir bat with signatures of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team from this month to raise funds for the Hope Cancer Hospital Project. A bat will be priced at 25 US dollars, he said. It was SriLankan's Inflight Services Department which came up with the idea of a inflight duty free item when requested to think of the best way that an onboard collection could be carried out. The cabin crew have also done much to promote the cap onboard and so collect funds for the Hope Hospital. "We sold over 700 caps, in the first 25 days," says Manager Corporate Communications Victor Abeysekera. The caps are sold at USD 5 each. On their return flight after the recent England tour, cricketers Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara assisted the crew in selling over 150 caps on board. |
