Kandy in convincing 55-12 win Kandy Sports Club registered a convincing 55 points to 12 win over Army Sports Club in their Caltex Inter-Club Premier League rugby championship match played at Galle Face yesterday. Kandy SC collected their points from four goals, three tries, three penalties and a drop goal while the soldiers put over four penalties. Kandy SC, which led 19-9 at the breather, cut loose in the second half to come out with their best performance for the season. It was Kandy SC's eighth win for the season and it came in grand style and at a time they need such a morale boosting win before next week's decisive game against the high-riding CR & FC. The visitors made merry against the soldiers as Kandy SC went on to score as much as seven tries. Sanjeewa Jayasinghe led the Kandy SC's try feast with two beautiful tries while Sameera Silva, Nalaka Weerakkody, Harris Omar, J. C. B. Vithanage and Salwan Kuthdoos crossed the Kandy line once each. It was Kandy SC all the way in the second half and never allowed the soldiers to recover. Weerakkody had a superb game. Apart from his try, he was outstanding with his kicking, putting over three penalties and a drop goal, in addition to two conversions. Nilufer Ibrahim made two conversions for the winners. Army SC failed to live upto expectations and match up with the far superior Kandy side. T. A. Silva put over all four penalties for Army SC, three in the first half and one after the lemons. |
