Minister on visit to Trincomalee

Trincomalee correspondent

Minister of Power and Energy Karu Jayasuriya visited Claphenburg area with CEB officials to select a suitable site for the proposed thermal power station at Trincomalee last Wednesday.

Additional General Manager CEB, D.V.E.N. Fernando and other CEB officials accompanied the Minister.

Minister Jayasuriya after visiting two sites at Claphenburg visited marble beach to select a site for 300 official quarters for employees. This is part of the thermal power station project.

Trincomalee district MP, M.A.M. Maharoof (UNP), UNP organiser Sunilsantha Ranaweera and UNP organiser Ranjani Senasinghe also accompanied the Minister.

Minister Jayasuriya and party went round the tank farm at China Bay and visited tank No. 91 which was burnt due to Japanese bombing sixty years ago in 1942 during the Second World War.

They also visited the Pump House and Oil Jetty.
