News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Situation in CPC, CEB better than before - Minister Jayasuriya Trincomalee correspondent Minister of Power and Energy Karu Jayasuriya addressing the engineers, clerical staff and other employees at the Trincomalee CEB depot at Love Lane said when the present government took over both the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Ceylon Electricity Board they were faced with enormous financial crisis. The plight was such it was found difficult to pay the salaries of the employees. However the situation has eased in the past six month. Mr. Jayasuriya said the situation could not be overcome as yet but it is much better than before. At present electricity is supplied to 59% and it is hoped to increase the supply upto 75% in a short period. The CEB is concentrating on rural electrification schemes. The Minister said he visited a suitable site for the erection of the proposed thermal all power station is Trincomalee. With the erection of thermal power station Trincomalee will become an important centre of the CEB. There will be more employment opportunities and Trincomalee will improve economically. He paid a tribute to CEB employees in the Northern and Eastern Provinces for their delicated service. He wanted the employees to cooperate with the government to improve the conditions of the CEB. He undertook to send a team of officials to look into the shortcoming prevailing in the Trincomalee CEB depot and problems of employees. |
