The Tamil United Liberation Front has expressed its deep regret over the violence in Muttur and Valaichchenai areas in the past one week. In a news release issued yesterday, the TULF said it is the duty of all civilians to recognise the significant improvements that the ceasefire has brought about in civilian life despite certain shortcomings. "The Tamil and Muslim peoples have lived together in perfect peace and harmony for centuries in the Eastern Province. Their daily lives are in numerous ways inextricably interlinked and interdependent. The vast majority of the Tamil and Muslim peoples desire to live together in peace and harmony in the future too. It is incumbent that we realise that there can be no space whatever for violence amongst ourselves, if our peoples are to co-exist with dignity and prosperity," the statement said. The TULF appeals to the Tamils and Muslim peoples to forget the recent past and work unitedly to achieve permanent peace. We need to ensure that our future generations live in peace and prosperity, and that they do not become the victims of meaningless violence, the TULF said. |
