Hopes hit by new injury setback LONDON, Tuesday (Reuters) - England pace bowler Darren Gough's hopes of making a comeback from injury during the one-day triangular series against Sri Lanka and India have taken a blow after he suffered a recurrence of his knee injury. Gough, who had already missed the just-concluded test series against Sri Lanka, broke down at the weekend after turning out for Yorkshire's Academy side, according to the Yorkshire Post. "It is the same knee problem as before and it looks as if it is back to square one for him," Yorkshire captain Darren Lehmann told the newspaper. Gough tore a cartilage in his right knee during the final one-day international in New Zealand in March. More problems with the knee in May led to the 31-year-old undergoing keyhole surgery. England have already lost pace bowler Andrew Caddick and batsman Mark Butcher for the one-day event. Caddick injured his left side in the third test against Sri Lanka earlier this month -- England won the series 2-1 -- while Butcher is recovering from knee surgery. England launch the triangular series against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday. |
