by Bulathsinhala special correspondent Western Province Minister of Transport, Lasantha Alagiyawanna said in Horana that the WP had planned to train all private bus drivers and conductors, to provide them uniforms and to take measures to issue valid tickets to all private bus travellers and to organise private bus services in a proper manner. The Minister was addressing a meeting of private bus owners held recently at Horana Town Hall. The Minister also said, the majority of private bus commuters are not happy about the private bus services. They are not issued tickets, some conductors are rude and impolite, dilapidated buses are in service, drivers drive buses over speed limit, and over loading. The WP Provincial Council has taken steps to give private bus drivers and conductors a good training. After the training they will be issued trained certificates. If they don't have these trained certificates, they will be sent out. A personal file will also be prepared for the benefit of them and chances are given to protect their vocational rights. A salary scheme for them will also be formulated. WPPC - JVP councillor Piyasiri Wijenayaka, said that government should meddle with the problems between bus owners and bus commuters. At the same time, when issuing road permits, they should be issued without considering MP recommendation. S.A. Premaratna, WPPC Councillor, Somasiri Gamage, Chairman Horana UC, Wimalasena, OIC Traffic Branch Horana Police, R.S. Perera and Robert Perera also spoke. |
