The CH and FC-Sharp partnership launched their special junior rugby development program for kids on the June 1, 2002 at CH and FC grounds. It will run in conjunction with the rugby season, under the careful guidance of Project Director, IRB qualified New Zealander and CH and FC coach Matthew Lee, who also coached the Wellington Maoris a rugby club playing in the New Zealand Provincial Championships.

Matt and his coaching staff who include Rohan Abeykoon, Nazeem Mohamad, Chandrishan Perera, Bimal Perera, Jude Dimitri, Graham Raux and Imthi Marikkar, all former national players who have played with distinction some of whom captained their country and respective clubs.

The main objectives of this program is to promote the development of the game at the junior level in Colombo and spread it to Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Wayamba and even to North and East. Essentially it will be focussing on individuals skills required for rugby i.e. ball familiarisation, ball handling, passing, kicking, running etc. It also provides an opportunity to identify natural talent at an early age.

In addition this program will lead to the formation of CH Juniors squad who will then play competitive matches against juniors of other leading clubs like Kandy prior to the main league game both home and away. It also provides a opportunity for the kids to rub shoulders with their rugby heroes and run on the same turf.

On the first day about 150 children from Western Province took part in this grand Junior Rugby Development Program at the CH & FC and it will be continued every Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
