by Colvin L. de Silva, our London correspondent Millions of revellers are expected to descend on London during the next few days for the climax of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Celebrations. More than 100 festivals, processions, street parties and fairs have also been organised at parks throughout the Capital and most London Borough Councils are playing a key role in these activities. Celebrations will reach a peak on Tuesday with a grand procession and Royal Air Force flypast. The official celebrations began on June 1 with a classical Prom at the Buckingham Palace featuring Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John alongside Atomic Kitten and Blue. Tuesday's climax will see most streets in Central London shut off for Queen's Procession to St. Paul's in the morning, followed by a carnival in the afternoon and the flypast. The London Underground - popular Tube will provide a 24 hour service to commuters on Monday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Commonwealth Music Live Festival will take place at Hyde Park. Musicians representing each of the five continents will feature at this show. The weather promises to stay fair and most people who earlier wanted to escape the Jubilee Celebrations have decided to stay at home and participate in the Monarch's great achievement. |
