Sri Lankan student receives US President's award for academic excellence

Ishreth Hassen, an OSC scholarship student who followed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at the Overseas School of Colombo was a recipient of the US President's Award for outstanding Academic Excellence. The award was bestowed at a special Graduation Ceremony held at the Lanka Oberoi on May 25th. Two other students of the Overseas School, John Holgate (USA) and Samuel Ooi (Malaysia) were also recipients of the President's Award.

This award recognises academic success in the classroom. To qualify for the award students have to demonstrate academic excellence, high motivation, initiative, integrity, intellectual depth, leadership and/or exceptional judgement. The award comes with a personal message of congratulation from the President of the USA and the First Lady.

Ishreth Hassen was a student who availed himself of the scholarship program offered by the Overseas School of Colombo to do the IB Program. His outstanding achievement has won him a further scholarship valued at US$ 43,000 from the University of Pennsylvania - a prestigious Ivy League University in the USA. Ishreth who said "The IB program really prepared me for University will be majoring in Management Technology.

Twenty one students graduated from the Overseas School of Colombo with a high record of achievement.
