by Manjula Fernando Despite protests by the North and East volunteer teachers in front of the Education Ministry in Battaramulla for the past several days demanding action to settle grievences of all volunteer teachers the North Central and Uva Provincial Councils are yet to submit relevant details for any remedial action to relieve their grievances, a top Ministry official said yesterday. He said that the Education Ministry which is planning to submit a Cabinet paper for approval has requested full details of volunteer teachers in three provinces in March this year. The request has been made following a petition submitted by the agitating teachers. However, only the North and East Provincial Council has responded positively to this request so far. North Central has written that they have no volunteer teachers and Uva did not respond at all. Thus, the Cabinet paper in this respect has been delayed due to incomplete data from the relevant authorities. The representatives of the agitating teachers have also informed that they have no complete information about the volunteer teachers when they met the Education Minister recently. The officer said unless the provincial authorities supply them with complete data they were unable to take any action since all these protesting teachers are from non-national schools coming directly under the purview of the provincial education offices. |
