by Sarath Malalasekera Sanath Gunatileke, film star and former Media Advisor to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, who was questioned at length in connection with the attacks on film actress Anoja Weerasinghe, Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga and singing duo Rukantha and Chandralekha, was released yesterday after the CID recorded several statements from him. When Sanath appeared before the CID yesterday, a special team of CID officers recorded his statement and released him directing him to appear before the CID when noticed. Earlier, the CID recorded three statements from Gunatilleke in connection with the attack on Anoja. The CID questioned him in connection with the attack on Anoja's house and farm in Moneragala and setting fire to her house in January last year. The CID investigating the attack on Anoja Weerasinghe's house and farm in Monaragala also questioned a former deputy minister of the previous regime. Sanath Gunatilleke was questioned at length in connection with causing damage to the house of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunga and causing hurt to Lasantha and his wife. He was also questioned in connection with the attack on singing duo Rukantha and Chandralekha in Borelesgamuwa and causing damage to their properties. |
