Western Union wins award of recognition for business expansion

Seylan Bank's Western Union Division has secured a prestigious award in recognition of its business expansion capabilities from Western Union headquartered in Germany. The 2001 award covered the Middle East and South East Asia. Seylan Bank has 90 branches and is represented throughout the island. It also serves expatriate workers especially in the Middle East by helping them to make inward remittances to their kith and kin. From March 21, the bank has implemented a unique service by introducing a 24-hour 7-days-a-week service to customers using Western Union. This service is available at the Ceylinco Seylan Towers.

From April 1, Seylan Bank increased the number of subagents providing Western Union services by including a further 25 People's Bank branches, thereby taking the total number of People's Bank branches providing Western Union services to 76 branches.

This Avurudu season, Seylan Bank has on its agenda a massive Western Union promotion planned in Sri Lanka and as well as in Germany. In Sri Lanka, for Western Union inward remittances in excess of Rs. 50,000 it has offered a swivel head lantern from April 8. A portable FM radio with headphone is available for Western Union inward remittances which are less than Rs. 50,000. This offer will remain open until stocks last.

The promotion in Germany was held in three locations and arrangements were made to have concerts in each location. The dates and locations were Wuppertal, April 14, Kassel, April 19 and Dortmund, April 21. Generous gifts such as diskman and Western Union gifts will be given to the winners of the raffle draws. In addition each participant at the concert will be given a voucher to collect a phone card from any of the 800 locations of Reise Bank, Seylan Bank's counterpart for Western Union transactions in Germany, when they carry out a remittance to Sri Lanka.
