Lara returns for West Indies practice session GEORGETOWN, Wednesday (Reuters) West Indies batsman Brian Lara, expected to be back against India after a three-month layoff since injuring his elbow against Sri Lanka late last year, attended a team practice session on Tuesday . The 32-year-old from Trinidad, who scored a world record 375 not out against England in 1994, had a light nets session amidst loud cheers from a few hundred fans who had gathered to watch the West Indies prepare for the first test starting on Thursday. "Obviously, it's great to have Lara back," captain Carl Hooper said. "Even in the last series he had played, Lara was the most outstanding player on both sides. He could be the key to our winning this series as well." The left-hander scored 688 runs against Sri Lanka in three tests at an average of 114.6 but could not prevent the West Indies being beaten 3-0. "He's a great batsmen and his contest with a player of Sachin Tendulkar's calibre will be exciting," Hooper added. Lara has scored 7,221 runs in 83 tests at 50.49 with 18 centuries, including three double tons and a triple century. |
