TELO calls for objective monitoring of ceasefire

Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) in a press release issued yesterday called for objective monitoring of the ceasefire as some action of both parties to the Agreement are not helping a return to normalcy.

While calling upon the LTTE to tender an unconditional apology to the Muslims of the North East for its wrong doings towards Muslims, the TELO also says that Muslims of the North East should also express their regrets over acts of violence committed against the Tamils by misguided sections of Muslims.

The press release:

"While welcoming all the actions of the UNF government connected to its peace initiative, TELO draws the attention of all concerned to the delay in properly responding to the demand of objective monitoring of all the aspects of ceasefire agreement, as some actions of both the parties to the agreement are not helping the situation to return to normal quickly.

"TELO also requests the LTTE to tender an unconditional apology to the Muslims of the North-East for all the acts of deprivation, coercion and violence closely resembling to genocide committed on the North East Muslims from 1985 to date.

"It is the opinion of TELO that the Muslims of North East too, in no unmistaken terms express their regrets over the acts of violence, by some misguided elements of the North East Muslim community, committed on their Tamil brethren during the same period. These acts were the results of the collaboration of the propertied classes of the Muslims of North East with the chauvinistic sections of the Sri Lankan security forces.

"TELO considers that the LTTE's pleasing the Muslims amidst the continued LTTE kidnapping and extortions is due to the pressure brought on them by the geo-political forces of the region and the super powers who have a vested interest in the region.

"TELO also expresses in explicit terms that as the Muslims of the North East are an inseparable part of the Tamil Nation, their problems of identity and security must be fully resolved in any future arrangement to establish and strengthen the inalienable national democratic rights of the Tamil nation within the framework of a united Sri Lanka."
