Two murder suspects remanded

About four thieves who came to the Rural Bank of Gonapinuwala, Hikkaduwa, killed the watcher on duty on the spot and ran away because they were unable to break open the iron safe though they tried their best to do so.

The watcher was Maduwa Guruge Wijeratna (42) of Hewagewatta, Gonapinuwala, Hikkaduwa, a father of four children.

Prof. Chandrasiri Niriellage JMO Karapitiya General Hospital, Galle who held the post mortem examination certified that death was caused tightening the neck with a sarong and some injuries on the body.

The inquest was also held by judicial medical officer Prof. Niriellage. He returned a verdict of murder.

The Hikkaduwa police have already taken two suspects into custody and produced them before the chief magistrate, Galle who remanded them.
