We are no enemy of peace - LTTE

by Trincomalee correspondent

The Trincomalee district LTTE political leader Ainkaran speaking at a meeting which followed the opening of the Trincomalee district political office at Green Road here on Tuesday said the LTTE fought for the rights of the Tamil people and not for concessions. The oppression and suppression of Tamil people by the Sri Lanka state armed forces have now come to an end.

He said "we would work for the development of the Tamil people who suffered due to the conflict. The government failed in its attempt to suppress our liberation struggle with the use of military powers. But they have failed. We are now in a strong position."

The four LTTE members of the political wing - Ainkaran, Thooliyaran, Kalaiarasan and Ms Karunya - were received by a mammoth crowd at the Trincomalee jetty and led in procession to the office at Green Road. Ainkaran also thanked the people for the manner in which they were welcomed.

Karunya in her speech said "We are no enemy to peace. We do fight for our just rights and honest peace". She said the LTTE declared unilateral ceasefire when the PA government was in power.

The PA government took our unilateral ceasefire as a weakness.

But the present UNF government accepted the unilateral declaration of ceasefire and co-operated in finding peace in the country. Ms. Victoria Lund, Head of the Ceasefire Monitoring Mission in Trincomalee declared open the LTTE political office.

Principal Chenaiyoor MV, K. Peranandan blamed the Indian government for not providing facilities to hold peace talks in India. He said India with a very large Tamil population should have been good enough to make arrangements to conduct the peace talks which is pertaining to the Tamil community in Sri Lanka.

Incumbent of the Vajiraramaya at Sinhapura, Trincomalee speaking both in Sinhala and Tamil said peace has dawned in the country with the signing of the MoU between the Government and the LTTE.

For 20 years people died due to the conflict, children lost their parents and people were undergoing untold hardships due to the war. All communities should live in the country as brothers, and peace would be stabilised for ever.
