Junior Chess Nationals start today

The Junior National Chess tournament will be conducted this month with around 5000 active players participating, the majority of them being school children.

Children under the age groups of 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 are requested by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka who are conducting this tournament to participate. Their entry forms could be forwarded through the teacher in charge of the school. The age limit will be considered as at 31.12.02. Players are kindly requested to bring their own chess sets for the tournament.

The final tournament for selected players will be held at Kegalu Vidyalaya, Kegalle on April 25, 26, 27, 28.

The tournament schedule: April 5,6,7 (5 rounds each): Southern Province (venue Sangamitta College, Galle), Wayamba Province (venue Wayamba Royal, Kurunegala), Sabaragamuwa Province (venue Kegalu Vidyalaya, Kegalle), Uva Province (venue Wihara BV, Badulla).

April 17,18,19,20 (8 rounds each): Western Province (venue President's College, Kotte), Central Province (venue Girls High School, Kandy), Northern Province (venue Hindu Primary College, Jaffna).
