Tendulkar in the driving seat

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has had a car named after him. The world's number one batsman said he was "honoured" after agreeing a deal with Fiat.

Fans are expected to snap up the limited edition Palio Sachins, which are available for around 600,000 rupees (sterling pound 8,500).

It is very unusual for a living person to have a vehicle named after them, but it's a trend that might catch on.

In years to come, everyone could be driving around in a car dedicated to their favourite cricketer.

Let's take a little peek into the future to see what models are likely to be filling the showrooms.

The Skoda Boycott:

Ideal for long journeys, unless you're in a particular hurry.

This vehicle has a stubborn streak, but once it gets started will keep going all day.

Will always get you from A to B, eventually.

The Austin Astle:

The complete opposite to the Boycott. Goes like s*** off a shovel and can do 0-200 quicker than anything else.

The downside is reliability. If you're looking for the sporty model that rarely lets you down, it might be worth going the extra mile to acquire the Lamborghini Gilchrist.

The Volkswagen Beefy:

Great all-round performer, tough as old boots.

This little beauty will always rise to the challenge and drives exceptionally well.

Easily recognisable by its distinctive round shape.

The Volvo Close:

Thoroughly reliable, if a tad unglamorous. Suited to all conditions and will take whatever punishment is dished out to it.

Doesn't come cheap, but you'll only ever need to buy one - guaranteed.

The Rolls Royce Gower:

If it's elegance you want, look no further than this prince among cars.

Effortless acceleration, with ultra-smooth action, this has class stamped right the way through it.

Can play up from time to time, particularly near airfields and you find yourself unexpectedly caught out in mid-cruise. (Courtesy BBC)
