Dissanayake for ITTF AGM L. B. Dissanayake, a veteran Table Tennis coach and a senior vice President of the TTASL left for Zagreb Croatia on the 3rd of April to represent Sri Lanka at the AGM of the International Table Tennis Federation to be held there from 4th to 8th. He will also be able to watch the top world players in action on the European TT championship to be held at the Zagreb at the same time. He was involved in the game for over 30 years and as a coach he served in many top TT playing schools like Hillwood, Vidyartha, St. Anthony's Girls High School (all become National Schools Champions under him) Sri Sumangala and St. Sylvester's. Players like Samantha Jayadeva, (first ever outstation National Champion), Thilina Piyadasa (present National Champion and Sri Lanka No. 1 seven years), Ravi Vindyan (playing for a club in Germany), Vajira Wickremasinha (coaching in the Maldives), Chamila Ratnajeewa Buddika Dikkumbura, Duminda Herath, Dilini Madawala, Devi Jayawardana, Athula Madhawa Wijerathna, Dishan Marapona and Thusitha Bandara, who represented Sri Lanka at Junior or senior level were his students. An the Central Provincial Coach he has promoted the game in the Central Province with the help of former Secretary to the Ministry of Education (CP) Palitha Elkaduwa and TT was introduced to about 40 new schools in the Province and some of them are well known TT playing schools in the country. He was also the Sri Lanka School Coach and has represented the country as a coach, Technical officer manager at senior and junior level in Sri Lanka and abroad. As a freelance Sports Journalist he has covered many sports events in Sri Lanka and abroad. |
