Suresh Subramaniam heads SLTA

41 years old Suresh Subramaniam, a former Davis Cup Captain and Coach was elected uncontested to head the Sri Lanka Tennis Association for the year 2002/2003.

Subramaniam a successful businessman is responsible for substantial resources flowing into the SLTA which gave the Association the much needed funds, to carry out its Junior and Outstation Development Program. After many decades, the member clubs have selected a top player to head the Tennis Association. Subramaniam has won many "National" titles and Captained the Davis Cup team in 2000. He also excelled at coaching. Popularly known as Sri Lanka's "Nick Bollettieri" due to his strict disciplinarian approach on the court. Subramaniam took Sri Lanka to its "greatest heights", when they beat Malaysia and Taiwan to reach the semi finals of the Davis Cup Group 2 in 1990. As a retired "Tennis Star" commented, Subramaniam being a top player and coach knows tennis like the back of his palm. Therefore, decisions made will be more tennis oriented, he said.

Subramaniam in his maiden address praised outgoing President Lalith Withana for promoting outstation tennis, improving the infrastructure at the SLTA Premises and developing junior tennis in the country. It is my task to now produce a champion, he said.
