Dialog GSM official mobile communication provider for Sri Lanka cricket team

The Sri Lanka Cricket Team entered in to a brand new partnership with Dialog GSM, Sri Lanka's premier cellular provider, following the selection of the latter as the official mobile communications and Internet service provider of the national team.

The announcement was made following the signing of an exclusive sponsorship agreement under which Dialog GSM would provide state of the art mobile communication services to the national cricket team. Services would include International Roaming services, WAP, SMS and GPRS technology in addition to host of other standard GSM features and benefits.

The sponsorship of the national team fielding regional and International stars is yet another step in Dialog GSM's illustrious and pioneering efforts to support the ascent of Sri Lankan sports to standards of International excellence.

Speaking on the new alliance with the Sri Lanka Cricket Team, Chief Executive of Dialog GSM Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, "Dialog is indeed privileged to have been selected by the National Team as the preferred mobile communications and Internet service provider. Dialog GSM and the Sri Lanka Cricket team have one key vision in common that Sri Lanka should be second to none in the world, and that in fact Sri Lankan talent and capability is truly world class as proven on many an occasion by our cricket team. We are indeed proud to be associated with the national side and are confident that we will live up to the confidence placed in us - we believe in the paradigm of - The Future Today - Sri Lanka Cricket is a living and proven example of a collective belief in this vision".

He went on to say that Dialog GSM was the first mobile phone operator to link mobile telephone consumers with the benefits of up to date sports information with the pioneering of Cricket Scores via SMS in 1999. "Today our consumers have many more technologies to benefit from" he said, "ranging from Interactive SMS Cricket Scores, a live WAP based service and more recently Dialog's pioneering GPRS service which supports a comprehensive sports portal".

Speaking on the reasons for selecting Dialog, Sanath Jayasuriya, skipper of the Sri Lanka side, stressed on the importance of having state of the art services such as W@P, SMS, and GPRS which today form a brand new form of media for the dissemination and popularization of sports at local and International Level. He went on to say that Dialog's International Roaming services were yet another key reason for the team entering in to its latest partnership. "International connectivity is key, Dialog GSM coverage extends to all cricket-playing nations of the world and will be an invaluable service to us" he added. Santha Jayasuriya also commended Dialog GSM for its pioneering efforts in sports development in Sri Lanka - "I am particularly appreciative of the fact that Diglog GSM has come forward to sponsor our youngsters - the U19 team, this was an area which normally did not attract commercial sponsorship - but true to their past record in working for the future of Sri Lanka Sports, Dialog became the first commercial organization to sponsor a youth side".
