CID to probe five cases

The Ministry of Interior yesterday directed the CID to commence immediate investigations into five incidents on which proper investigations had not been conducted during the previous regime.

The five cases are; the attack on journalists at a protest march, the assassination of Satana editor Rohana Kumara, the attack on the singing duo Rukantha and Chandralekha, the arson attack on Anoja Weerasinghe's house and undue interference in Police action against Beddagane Sanjeewa and an armed gang, CID sources said.

The investigation into the assault on journalists commenced yesterday morning itself while for the other four cases, Police teams were deployed in the afternoon.

The CID will take action to bring the suspects before Courts following the investigations.

The sources said that a large number of petitions are received by the Interior Ministry almost everyday regarding these four incidents.
