Thirty three rural power projects in Ratnapura district

Thirty three small scale power houses are coming up under a crash program initiated and assisted by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council in the Ratnapura district. The power projects expected to produce 341 kwts. will be completed during the course of this year according to project sources.

The SPC under the Chief Minister has already allocated Rs. 3.7 million for these projects with contributions of the people friendly associations of the province to defray the cost of the projects, the Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Power, SPC, Mahinda Samarasekera told the Daily News.

The rural power projects under construction will supplement the electricity needs of the remote areas not accessible to the National Grid.

Two of the projects in Thambagamuwa and Udagama in Pallebedde have already been completed with another almost nearing completion according to project sources.

Anther project in Wanumare in the Ratnapura electorate is almost ready for commissioning constructed under the World Bank assistance program.
