Co-ops buy paddy at higher prices by Kekirawa special correspondent The Multi Purpose Co-operative Societies of Kekirawa, Konapathirawa and Maradankadawala are now equipped with facilities and funds to purchase paddy from the farmers in their respective localities. Kekirawa MPCS is ready with 2.5 million rupees to buy paddy from cultivators who are members of their co-operative societies, at Rs. 14.00 for Samba and Rs. 13.00 for Naadu, provided the produce is of standard quality, while Gonapathirawa MPCS has funds to the tune of 2 million rupees with which they have already started purchasing the targeted 200 metric tons at Rs. 14.00 for Samba and Rs.13 for Naadu. The stock of purchase is for sale to the consumers after processing. Maradankadawala MPCS offers Rs. 13 for Samba and Rs. 12.50 for Naadu. In view of the poor harvest in the area due to the drought, the MPPS intends to buy any deficits of the targeted stock from the neighbouring Regional Co-operative Societies in Galnewa, Kekirawa and Eppawala, states its General Manager. |
