Private operators to resume domestic flights to Jaffna The Government is to give clearance for private airline operators to resume domestic flights, Government Spokesman and Minister prof. G.L. Peiris said yesterday. Domestic flights were suspended for several years owing to the situation in the country and there is a big demand for civilian flights between Colombo and Jaffna. Private airline operators will have the chance to fly between Jaffna and Colombo to meet this passenger demand, the Minister added. Currently civilian flights to Jaffna are being operated only by helitours, the commercial wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force following the suspension of domestic flights few years back due to security reasons. The higher charges for domestic flights due to higher demand for their service are also expected to be reduced with the resuming of the domestic flights by private air operators. |
