Prabhakaran to meet the press

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran will conduct a press conference next Wednesday (April 10) in Kilinochchi to discuss the current peace moves and associated issues, a LTTE news release said yesterday.

Prabhakaran will be assisted by Anton Balasingham, the LTTE's chief negotiator and political advisor. This is the first time in 10 years that Prabhakaran will meet the local and international press.

The LTTE statement said: "Mr. Vellupillai Prabhakaran (Pirapaharan), assisted by Mr. Anton Balasingham, will be conducting a press conference on Wednesday, April 10, to discuss current political developments and associated issues. This will be Mr. Prabhakaran's first press conference in ten years. Among other matters, he will address issues related to the ongoing Norwegian peace initiative in Sri Lanka.

"Representatives of local and international media are invited to attend the conference which will take place around 5 p.m. in Kilinochchi. The venue will be announced shortly. The LTTE can assist those requiring accommodation."
