Palmyrah handicraft exhibition, competition in Jaffna

The Palmyrah handicraft exhibition and competition will be held at St. John's College, Jaffna from April 7 to 9. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister for Lands will open the exhibition on the invitation of the Minister of Hindu Religious Affairs, Thiyagarajah Maheswaran at 10 a.m.

The Chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board, Ponniah Sivapatham and all other officials in Colombo and Jaffna are making arrangements to make this occasion a success.

The Palmyrah palm is a multi purpose tree with high potential for economic development. It has been called the "Tree of Life" and has tremendously contributed for the poor and downtrodden people in rural areas as food, shelter and also as an income-generating tree. Several edible and non-edible products are made from the Palmyrah palm.
