The Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute has scheduled to hold a new course of lectures on "International Trade and Economic Relations on April 4, 5, 18, 19 and 25. The lectures will be delivered by N. E. Hewage, Director General, Department of Commerce. This lecture series will be a comprehensive study of the economic relations of Sri Lanka and represents an extension of the course on Economic Diplomacy which was held by this institute last year. These programs reflect the impact of economic forces on the Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka and the need to appreciate them. The curriculum of this course includes subjects as Salient Features of the WTO system, China's Accession to the WTO, Regional Trade and Economic Integration arrangements of the European Union and SAARC, Increase in Trade towards Bilateral Trade arrangements such as the Indo Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement and broader regional economic integration, arrangements such as Bimst-EC, IRO-ARC. They constitute a very comprehensive and thorough analysis of Sri Lanka's current trade initiatives and its economic policy. Mr. Hewage is the most senior commercial diplomat of the Sri Lanka government and has a long and distinguished career in the field of international trade relations, trade policy formulation and practice. He was Sri Lanka's last Permanent Representative to the GATT and the first Permanent Representative of WTO.
