New Edinborough products awarded SLS mark

Chairman New Edinborough products Rauf Pasha had his basic education at the now defunct Anderson College. After school hours he used to engage himself in his father's business I.C. Mohideen & Sons established in the early 60s.

They were importing edible products and Mr. Pasha as a young/dynamic boy then used to browse the ingredient list of all such items imported. Knowing him from his young days he was never satisfied working for someone, be it father or otherwise but be an entrepreneur in the food industry. With this objective in mind and while helping his father he started experimenting with all the mixes he knew about cordial, sauce, jam etc.

Though chemistry of the ingredients was foreign to him he was smart enough to know the amount of wealth he could generate out of the right mix if ever he could achieve it.

He set up his own makeshift factory in 1979 to manufacture sauce, cordial etc on a very small scale in the backyard of his then moderate house at Grandpass. This start gave him disappointing results because of the abnormally high rejects. But his grit & determination stood high despite this setback. He took pains more often working late nights with his wife and two children in trying to get the correct blend. Hard work and toil certainly has its results and he got it right finally much to his elation.

Reaping the harvest he moved into bigger place at Rajagiriya and slowly but surely started expanding the production facilities. Nevertheless the production process was carried out manually. With the balance sheet getting better day by day Mr. Pasha acquired a 5-acre plot at Halbarawa/Padukka and he quite rightly got his only son Mr. Zalmy fully committed and dedicated to the flourishing business. They jointly put up the factory and this young man Zalmy started imparting his skills gained during his training stints in Food Technology at Fiamen Foodstuff Co Ltd China & Tangsen Ha Ltd Thailand. He has been instrumental in automating the production process.

The company headed by Mr. Pasha has grown steadily and a well trained workforce of about 130 has led to carving out a niche in the market. Nonetheless he and his son have not ignored the society. As a socially responsible corporate citizen Edinborough Products with its own finance put up an institution for the under privileged children in Wariyapola and is fully maintained by them without outside assistance up to now.

The company takes pride in being the largest brewer of Soyasauce in Asia which I believe even Mr. Pasha wouldn't have dreamt of 20 years ago. The SLS Certification that is being conferred today is the result of Mr. Pasha's untiring efforts despite many obstacles he faced during the early stages. Besides hard work loyalty & integrity have been the ingredients for his success. This is certainly a milestone in his business career but he remains humble true to his business ethics and principles.

With this SLS certification we will not take the back seat but shall ensure the highest food factory standards are maintained in the entire process. We will strive to obtain the SLS stamp for the other items in our Product Portfolio, he said.
