Plans are afoot to coordinate the activities of Provincial Agricultural Ministries with the Samurdhi, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry under the Central Government, in order to foster and uplift the current state of lagging behind in the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry. Explaining the objectives envisaged under the new move, Samurdhi, Agriculture and Livestock Minister S. B. Dissanayake states that this does not by any means curtail the powers and purview of the Provincial Councils but will facilitate a better coordination of activities pertaining to land, water, soil conservation, new technology, high quality seed production, standards, transport and marketing which are essential factors for the promotion of agriculture and livestock farming. |
