Dr. Peter Kielgast, President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation will be in Sri Lanka from February 27 to March 1 on the invitation of the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka. FIP is the Federation of all the pharmaceutical associations in the world. This is the first visit of a President of the professional body of pharmacists in the world. He will be the Chief Guest at the seminar on Pharmaceuticals organised jointly by the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka, Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industries and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association to be held today February 28 at Hotel Taj Samudra at from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Dr. Kielgast was formerly the Director of the Danish Pharmaceutical Association, President of the Pharamaceutical Group of the European Union, Professional Secretary for the Community Pharmacy Section of the International Pharamaceutical Federation. He also held directorships of Peptech Europe Ltd, and Nomeco Ltd, Copenhagen and Hafslund Nycomed Ltd., Oslo, Norway. Dr. Beligaswatte, Director General of Health Services will be the Guest of Honour and Dr. Kantun, WHO Resident Representative in Sri Lanka will be the special invitee at the seminar. Dr. Kielgast will talk on the "Role of Pharmacists: A Global Overview", Dr. A.M.L. Beligaswatte on "Towards Better Health Care: Availability and Cost of Drugs" and Dr. Kantun on "Pharmacy Practice in Developing Countries". There will also be a panel discussion on trade, manufacture of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy education. |
