Armoury seized, six in custody by Deepal Samarasekera and Ranjith Padmasiri The CID yesterday raided a house at Bomiriya on the banks of the Kelani river and seized an armoury while taking into custody six suspects. When the CID team neared the house, one of the suspects had opened fire at them and fled. However, the CID did not fire back and systematically surrounded the house before moving in. The weapons seized included one T56 rifle, two pistols, four revolvers, five fire arms, three hand bombs, eight kris knives, live ammunition and a stock of commando kits similar to those used by the army. According to the CID, the venue was used as a safe house by a notorious underworld gang leader from Kolonnawa who together with his men were planning an attack on a rival gang. The gang was also wanted in connection with several crimes including murder. The raid was conducted by a team of CID officers led by Chief Inspector, Senaka Kumarasinghe, Inspectors, Shani Abeysekera, Dilruksha Perera, Sub Inspectors, Nalaka Gunasekera, Wijayakumara, Ranjith Munasinghe and Sgts. Basil Upali under the directions of Senior DIG (CID), Sisira Mendis and Director CID, C. L. Ratnayake.
