by Kurunegala special correspondent Twenty persons donated Rs. 500,000 for the Hasthishailapura Buduruwa Development Society (HBDS) Fund at the People's Bank, Super Grade branch, Kurunegala on Wednesday morning at a special ceremony. It is proposed to build a 66 feet Buddha statue at the Elephant Rock, Kurunegala by the HBDS at a cost of Rs. 15 million. The foundation stone was laid on October 18, 2001 AD by the Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkithabidana Thera, Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has already donated an acre of land at the Elephant Rock for the project. Rs. 5 million has already been collected by public donation for the Fund. Y. B. Dissanayake, Secretary, Wayamba Development Ministry, Kurunegala is the President of the HBDS. Zonal AGM, People's Bank, P. V. W. Sirisoma and A. Wijesekera, Chief Manager, People's Bank, Super Grade branch, Kurunegala were also present. |
