by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi Five ex-convicts who were among those released in a recent general amnesty went back to their old ways raiding a jewellery store and escaping with several lakhs of rupees before being apprehended by Police. They were arrested by the Sapugaskanda Police on Monday in connection with a burglary on a jewellery manufacturing centre in the area where these culprits had stolen jewellery worth several lakhs. Soon after the arrest of those suspects, Police also recovered the stolen jewellery and the motor-bike and three-wheeler used in the robbery. Police said the suspects were from Biyagama, Kaduwela and Avissawella areas. They had been in prison for house-breaking and theft and other criminal offences. Police believe that these suspects were also involved in some other robberies too. Further investigations are being conducted under the supervision of SSP Kelaniya Division Jagath Abeysirigunawardene. |
