Seva Vanitha helps families of dead war heroes

The 38 member Seva Vanitha Unit of the Export Development Board collected nearly Rs. 400,000 and handed it to the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RVSA) to provide 3 houses and 10 scholarships to the families of combatants killed in action. At a simple ceremony held last week, the new Chairman of the EDB Mr. Seevaratnam and its Additional Director General Mrs. Manel Pandithasekara Rodrigo handed over certificates to the recipients of the award.

The Chairperson of the RVSA, Dr. Narme Wickremesinghe thanked the ladies of the Export Development Board for caring for the families of those who had sacrificed their lives for the country, in such a magnificent manner. He said that with the peace expected the RVSA hopes to develop vocational, self employable and marketable skills in the families of service and police personnel, the disabled, and those being demobilized after 12 years of service. This project is already underway and requested the Export Development Board to assist in obtaining the training.

Fined for selling liquor on Poya Day

Two young men were fined Rs. 20,000 each by the Kandy Magistrate C.V. Rajapakse when they pleaded guilty to liquor on a Poya Day.

H.M. Amarasinghe Banda and R.P.S. Sunil both of Hantane, Kandy were charged with selling liquor in a licensed beer shop in Kandy town on a Poya Day. Both Pleaded guilty to charges.

IP Lal Seniviratne, OIC Central Range Vice Squad informed court that there are 32 bottles of arrack and 309 empty arrack bottles in the case and moved that they be confiscated.

The Magistrate confiscated 32 bottles of arrack and 309 empty arrack bottles.
