100 day program : Media Ministry gets down to business Two Advisory Councils, one for the Posts and Telecommunications Sector and the other for the Media Sector will be appointed shortly, the Ministry of Mass Communications said yesterday in a news release. The ministry added that a Draft Act to provide pensions to journalists has been prepared for presentation in Parliament. Despite the fact that appointments have yet to be made to the Press Council workshops and other training courses, which would benefit media personnel are being arranged. The Sri Lanka Media Institute too has assisted in providing courses in collaboration with external and agencies. The foundation stone for an up-graded sub post office will be laid in memory of the ten youths who died in the Udathalawinna massacre on election day, the media release added. Scheduled date for the ceremony is February 15. The release added that the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission will soon launch a Rs. 150 million project to streamline the 'Regulatory regime' in order to move Sri Lanka towards a knowledge based society. Costs will be met out of the council's own funds. |
