Jeevan
and Charith excel
Thomian Jeevan Mendis and Mazenodian Charith Sylvester formed an unforgettable combination when both performed a first at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World match against Zimbabwe on Thursday. Mendis represented Sri Lanka 'A' against Zimbabwe last month and scored an impressive 80 runs and is eligible to represent his school this year at school cricket. He became the highest wicket taker in an Under-19 World Cup taking 7 for 19 in 9.2 overs after scoring 57 while batting, and Charith Sylvester was instrumental in 8 victims while keeping wickets (four stumpings and four catches) seven of them off Mendis' bowling. This happens to be the best performance by a wicketkeeper in any grade of cricket. Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe in a decisive match to enter the Super League and will most probably meet Pakistan in this competition on Sunday. |
