Still purging A 72 year old Indian passenger from Madras was nabbed by the Police Narcotic Officers at the Bandaranaike International Air Port yesterday with nearly Rs.800,000 worth (500g) of heroin inside his stomach. He had been made to swallow over 100 condoms filled with heroin in Madras. The passenger had travelled to Sri Lanka 15 times before and the PNB which arrested him on a tip-off suspect that he might have smuggled narcotics during the previous visits as well. The Indian is now warded at the Negombo Hospital under police custody and by yesterday evening the doctors have managed to purge out 84 condoms. Condolence vote postponed The condolence vote on the late Assisant Leader of the UNP Gamini Athukorale which was scheduled for yesterday was postponed for any date upon the request made by the Leader of the Opposition and Chief Opposition Whip that the ytoo were keen to participate in the debate, Leader of the House Minister W. J. M. Lokubandara told Parliament yesterdaya. Both Leader of the Opposition Ratnasiri Wickramasinghe and Chief Opposition Whip Mahinda Rajapaksa are currently abroad. |
