Lakdanavi to boost CEB supply

"Lakdanavi" is to strengthen the power supply system of Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) with a thermal power plant of 10 MW capacity under the 'Emergency Supply of Electricity Programme' to meet the present power crisis.

Accordingly, "Lakdanavi" is the first company to join this emergency power supply programme implemented by the Ministry of Power and Energy under the "100 day programme" of the government.

This thermal power plant started to add its generation to national grid on January 21.

The Ceylon Electricity Board purchases one unit of electricity generated by this thermal power plant at Rs. 5.97, which is the lowest rate that the CEB has ever paid.

This power plant adds 2,40,000 units to the national gird per day.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Power and Energy has invited tenders to establish thermal power plants with 100mw of installed capacity and steps will be taken to offer tenders to the lowest bids, in keeping with the 'Transparency Policy' of the Government, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Power and Energy.

Accordingly these thermal power plants will commence generation during March extending the supply of power.

The present power supply difficulties will be reasonably lessened, once these thermal power plants are implemented.
