Minister to appoint five member committee to monitor Samurdhi

by Galewela group correspondent

Samurdhi Minister R.A.D. Sirisena met the officers of his Ministry at the Matale Secretariat and discussed the manner in which the Samurdhi benefits were distributed among the people in the district. He said that many instances of malpractises had been reported by the people.

The Minister said that according to the investigations conducted by the UNF, about 30% of the people receiving Samurdhi benefit did not have the qualification to receive it, at the same time, about 35% of those who deserve to get it have been denied it.

The Minister further said that a five member committee would be set-up in every Divisional Secretariat area to study, gather information and to remedy the malpractices, if found in the Samurdhi system.

The Divisional Secretary, a Samurdhi recipient and three others will be empowered to monitor the above strategy. After three months the list of Samurdhi recipients will be altered where required.
