to attend Commonwealth Committee on terrorism
by Manjula Fernando Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando will lead the Sri Lankan delegation to the first meeting of the newly formed Commonwealth Committee on Terrorism which is to be held in London on Tuesday (29). The 10-member CCT was established after the September 11 terrorist attack on the US to take necessary steps to curb international terrorist funding networks within the commonwealth framework, Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando told the Daily News. Australia, the Bahamas, Britain, Canada, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Tanzania and Tonga are the other members of the CCT. During his stay in the UK, Minister Fernando will hold bilateral talks with his British counterpart Jack Straw and brief the British Government on the development of the Sri Lankan peace process. He will also hold talks with Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer. The Minister will also be hosted to dinner at the High Table at Keble College, Oxford University. The BBC will interview him on Sri Lankan developments. |
